When I was in grade school back in the early Sixties, Channel 3 in Cleveland had a daily kiddie show called Barnaby. KTV shows the cartoon now, with different opening music, and it still stinks, although we give it the MST3K treatment these days.
Notwen, lol. Suffering psyche — that was one of my favorite episodes even though newton is quite annoying in general. Notwen is Newton spelled backwards. Notwen was a real ahole and would probably have been a better sidekick. I loved watching Herc. I still do today. Could choose any form he pleased, and he chose some real doozys. Why is it that every time Herc would get on and take off, Pegasus would buck mentally for a while and then fly on.
We then gabbed a bit about non Herc things. He crossed the street and went into a corner store, and I went home feeling like I had just won the lottery. Why do you feel the psychological need to pick apart every possible aspect of a childrens cartoon and ridiculously analyze it? I guess the basic principle of pure and simple escapism is lost on you huh? The fact that you oversexualize the characters themselves by attempting to assign sexual preference TO A CARTOON CHARACTER shows that you have certain unresolved sexual issues yourself, while your desire to criticize the work and talent of the artists using the best devices of the time to create the shows hints at your own insecurity and hindered creative development.
The professor from Felix the Cat cartoons and Deadilus are one and the same. Maybe even Felix and Newt? Helena was a No panties? Newton was hot for Herc and jealous. Hercules is always carting Daedalus off to justice at the end of the episode, but there he is, back again to torment him by the next episode. You are commenting using your WordPress. Are these guys identical twins…or are they the same person? The world will never know. How come all the m onsters sound the same? Why does Hercules get beaten up every episode? Uh, Herc. Did it ever occur to you to keep your ring ON at all times? They owe us that. How is it possible to run without using your torso? Holy Crap. That really is amazing! Maybe only Demi-Gods are able to run like this. Big deal.
Just take off his mask, and then just pummel the sonnavabitch. Can this be any more GAY? Um…Okay, Newton. We get it. One of the best and funny aspects of the show is all the various creatures would practically make the same sound when roaring or letting out their battle cry. Whether the creature was on land or in the air or sea, the made that iconic sound. Hercules has the brain and brawn to get out of most situations, as long as he has his magic ring.
Hercules did need some assistance to get out of various situations throughout the run of the show and showed his appreciation to his friends. Sometimes Hercules needs to call on his winged steed, Pegasus, too! On the show he provides comedy relief but is also problem solver when Hercules is in a jam.
He can also be a pain in the ass for Hercules because Newton can get himself into trouble, too. Tewt sometimes gets caught up in some of the action and alerts others when people are in trouble. Helena is the typical damsel in distress. Guess what happens? She actually gets into trouble and almost perishes because of it! Who would have thought? By todays standards the stories were over simplistic, and predictable but they stuck a real heroic chord with me. Some viewers who saw them the latter way report unpleasant responses to such prolonged exposure to its style of animation, which was somewhere between limited and non-existent.
The voice of Hercules was done by Jimmy Tapp, who had no other voice credits but was well known as a television and radio personality in Montreal. Newt was Gerry Bascombe, who also had no voice credits outside of this show but who also played Daedalius and Tewt, another cute sidekick.
